Business continuity managers in the UK local authorities seem to be well prepared for disasters, but stress that they need more support from the top. Almost half of the managers feel that the budget they are provided with is not sufficient, and almost 80% say that their budget has not been increased in the past one year.

The results came out in a survey conducted by Adam Continuity to assess the state of affairs in the local authorities concerning disaster recovery and business continuity. The most important fact that came to light was that most of the local authorities are well aware of how critical it is to be prepared for data management and back up, and had rehearsed the procedure for IT disaster recovery at least once in the last two years.

The survey also showed that almost 65% of the local authorities rely on both internal and external resources when it comes to managing business continuity, with the remaining rely solely on outsourcing.

Speaking about the survey results, Philip Caulfield, MD of Adam Continuity says that it is pleasing to know that the IT departments of the local authorities follow the advice that they are often seen giving to others. He added that almost two thirds of the people responsible for managing IT in local authorities consider business continuity to be extremely important, and their concern shows in the way they manage their disaster recovery plans.
